Course Title
GILT 631 Instructional Technology
Course Description
This course emphasized the leading teacher program (LTP) as a way to develop computer skills and instructional technology competencies to be a successful teacher. The focus was on preparing content-specific classroom applications, and developing effective technology-based instructional lessons.
Project Description
In our practice of developing different technology-based instructional lessons, I began using the software Zotero. Zotero is an online, free software that allows people to assemble libraries of citations, and share these libraries. This can be very helpful when collaborating on educational materials or research, so I felt that others could benefit from learning how to use Zotero. I developed an online video with guidance as to how to use this software.
Reflection
Since I began using Zotero, I have become more adept with it. I am learning how beneficial it is to maintain clear libraries. Now, I can always find articles that I used in previous projects, and it is easy for me to share libraries with other educators and with researchers.
According to Misanchuk and Anderson, learners must be required to interact with not only the content, but the teacher and each other. This can promote collaboration, and will encourage creativity. Developing a learning community like this has many positive results.
In education, we all may learn about how to use different technology. Therefore, it is important to participate in learning communities and to promote knowledge in how to use different types of software, especially that which enhances digital-age collaboration. If I can share Zotero libraries with my colleagues effectively, it will stimulate innovation and creativity among us, and improve our use of educational technology.
