Course Title

GDIT 703: Foundations of Instructional Technology

Course Description

This course is designed as an introduction to the instructional technologies, ethics, and the current research in the field of Instructional Technology. Students are asked to identify current research issues, analyze research papers and peer-review, discuss classroom applications of technologies, and effectively and efficiently use instructional technologies.

Project Description

The class was assigned to present on a technology either currently in existence or being developed that could be used in instruction, and to explain how it could be used. My response was the development of a video to explore applying the use of a 3-D interface in Chinese kindergarten through twelfth grade education. Although this technology is not currently available, when it is, it could greatly enhance learning as it would likely increase the quality of the learning experience.

Reflection

I personally think it would be very exciting to apply 3-D technology in the classroom. Even though it is not widely available yet, I feel it is important to envision the future and share this type of vision with others, so that educators can readily adopt this technology when it is available. Education should not be slow in trying out new technology for educational purposes, even if that was not the original use of the technology.

I feel it is important to model and promote the frequent and effective use of technology for learning, because much technology exists that works well but has not been leveraged for teaching purposes. In my career, I will always be looking for new ways to apply technology to learning, and when I do this, I will promote it among my colleagues. I will model using these technologies frequently and effectively, and hopefully my colleagues will pick up on these new ways to use technology in teaching.
