Course Title
GDIT 708: Technologies Management and Leadership
Course Description
The purpose of this class was to give the student an opportunity to explore the management and leadership of instructional technology environments. Students were taught to develop a course proposal in one of the areas of online teacher preparation.
Project Description
We were presented with a scenario, where the aim was to develop and present a proposal for online instruction that used the teacher effectiveness model of teacher supervision and evaluation adopted by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. My group developed a course aimed at teaching how to delivery design, and supplement instruction in the online learning environment. The goal was to raise the competence in undergraduates attending a college teaching the application instructional technology.
Reflection
This project made me realize that sometimes change needs to be mandated at a higher level of a strategic plan, or else the entire organization will not change in a standardized manner. If a college of education feels it needs to broaden the knowledge of its undergraduates, it cannot rely on individual professors in coming up with the solution. It needs a strategic plan to implement new courses such as the one we designed together to make sure all the undergraduates in the program are receiving the necessary information. Also, all sections of the course can then be synchronized and quality can be maintained.
I also realized that this project represented what an administrator rather than an individual teacher must think about. An administrator needs to engage in an ongoing process to develop, implement, and communicate strategic plans to other administrators and to implement these plans to improve education in their organization. If these strategic plans are infused with technology and aligned with the shared vision of the organization, they can go a long way toward improving the quality overall of education in the organization.
